Locksmith Prices · Tooele County, UtahWhat A LocksmithShould Cost You

Most locksmith websites will not tell you a price. There is a reason for that, and it is not a good one. Here is how the money actually works before you pick up the phone.

The Short Version

Four Kinds Of Job, Four Kinds Of Price

Locksmith work is not one price because it is not one job. Getting a door open and cutting a chipped key for a 2021 truck are different amounts of work, different equipment, and different parts. What does not change is that you hear your number on the phone, before anybody drives anywhere.

Lockouts

A straightforward car or house lockout, anywhere in Tooele County out as far as Lake Point. That is the service call, and for most lockouts it is the whole job.

$50and up

Car Keys & Fobs

The chip, the blank and the programming change with almost every make and model year. My own cost on a blank remote alone runs about $100 to $300 depending on what you drive. Have your year, make and model ready and I can price it on the call.

Safes

A locked safe is a different animal than a locked door, and there is no honest flat rate for one. Gun safes, floor safes, drop safes and the old dial ones are all their own job. Text me a photo of the safe and the model number.

Why Nobody Else Posts This

The Nineteen Dollar Locksmith

You have seen the ads. Nineteen dollars, twenty-nine dollars, a lockout for less than lunch. That price is almost never a local person. It is a call center, often in another state, that sells your job to whoever is nearest and takes a cut.

The person who shows up did not set that price and does not feel bound by it. That is how a lockout turns into three hundred dollars in your driveway at eleven at night, when you are tired, your kids are in the car, and you are in no position to argue. It is the single most common complaint in this entire trade.

If the job turns out to be different from what you described, I tell you before I start. Not after, and not once your lock is already drilled.

What Moves The Number

Why I Cannot Just Post One Price

Four things change what a job costs, and all four are about the work, not about what time you called. None of them is the clock.

  • What you drive. The chip, the blank and the programming are different on nearly every make and model year.
  • Whether any working key still exists. One key makes a spare quick. Zero keys is a different job.
  • How far out you are, quoted as part of the job rather than added at the end.
  • Whether parts are involved. Opening a lock is labor. Replacing one is labor plus a part.

What you drive

This is the big one on anything with a key. The chip, the blank and the programming are different on nearly every make and model year, and my own parts cost swings by a few hundred dollars because of it. It is why a real quote needs your year, make and model and not much else.

Whether any working key still exists

One working key makes a spare quick and cheap. Zero working keys is an "all keys lost" job, which takes longer and costs more because the key has to be built from the vehicle itself. Both are normal work, they are just different jobs.

How far out you are

Inside Tooele County out to Lake Point is the standard service call. Past that, the drive is real and it gets quoted as part of the job. Nothing gets added quietly at the end.

Whether parts are involved

Opening a lock is labor. Replacing a deadbolt, a cylinder or a safe lock is labor plus a part. You hear both halves before I start, and if a repair costs more than a replacement I will tell you that too.

What does not move the number

The clock. There is no separate night rate invented on the doorstep, and no weekend surcharge that appears once I am standing there. The price you were quoted is the price.

Want Your Number Before I Drive?

Tell me what is locked, what you drive if it is a vehicle, and where you are. You get a real figure on the phone, not a range and not a surprise.
